Board of Elections to certify Senate runoff results next week
Chief Elections Official Carol Heard has been hard at work, summarizing the total number of votes that were tallied during the Senate runoff on January 5th.
Heard said the turnout was less than that of the Presidential Election, with only a 58.71% turnout this go around, compared to a 70.22% turnout for the November election.
However, the numbers were still high with more than 10,000 registered voters filling out a ballot.
Heard said on Election Day approximately 3, 311 people voted, while 4,865 voted in advance and 1,877 voted by mail.
“We had fewer mail in ballots this time and less advanced voting, due to the fact only the annex was open because it was a smaller ballot,” Heard said.
Because of this, Heard said all voting locations were full on Election Day. Heard thanked poll workers, saying they did a phenomenal job despite the crowds.
Following the closing of the last polling location, Heard provided the unofficial and incomplete tabulations, which are set to be certified next week.
Republican David A. Perdue (I) received 2,339 votes on Election Day and 2,933 votes during Advanced Voting. He also received 638 mail in ballots, totaling 5,910 votes compared to his Democratic opponent Jon Ossoff, who received 4,119.
